Melbourne Street Art December 2016 Part 2

I like to wander the laneways and alleys of Melbourne looking for the latest in street art. This selection was some of the best I found in December 2016. A mixture of spray painting, pasteups and stencils. Most were gone (over-sprayed) in the following days. The artworks were mostly taken in Hosier & Rutledge Lanes, Melbourne CBD (part 1) and Artists Lane off Chapel Street in Windsor (part 2) and a few more locally in laneways off Acland Street, St Kilda. (Part 3)

Melbourne Laneway Street Art November 2016

Most lunchtimes I wander the laneways and alleys of Melbourne CBD looking for  the latest in street art. This selection was some of the best I found in November 2016. A mixture of spray painting, pasteups and stencils. Most were gone (over-sprayed) in the following days.

Drewery Lane Street Art Project

In Drewery Lane at the rear of Legacy House, a special project has been slowly developing over the last few years. A mosaic artist, Sankar Nadeson, has been creating long walls of ceramic tiles and mosiacs. Sankar is a skilled mosaic artist, tiler and teacher. He has been working with schools and various art programs to teach people how to make ceramic tiles and then putting them up onto the walls of Drewery Lane. The theme of the art work has been Legacy. Legacy is a charity organisation that supports families of defence force personnel who have been injured or killed. Many of the tiles below were made by kids with strong ties to the defence forces.

Elwood’s colourful streets

I noticed that lately there has been an increase in local street art in the walkways and lanes of my home patch in Elwood. I am quit enjoying the developing art scene. Plenty of brick walls available along our many alleys and laneways…

Pirate Kite of Ormond Point

When looking for birds to photograph you sometimes find other odd things to watch. In the open area below the navigation tower at Point Ormond I enjoyed the skill of this kite flyer with his pirate ship kite. Considering its complex form and all the moving bits it flew remarkably well. The Point is a well known area for kite flying though lately the flyers have been squeezed out of the larger open ground due to it becoming the landing zone for a local parachuting business.  I like the idea that the pirate ship was probably breaking the local council rules…
