Guitarist of Flanigan Lane

A walk through a narrow laneway: Flanigan Lane, in the Melbourne CBD,  and a nice surprise, a very large mural of a Blues guitarist…

Drewery Lane explored

Drewery Lane is an interesting lane off Lonsdale St in the Melbourne CBD. There are three linked lanes with an eclectic mix of art –  from murals, to plaques commemorating Legacy ( a charitable organisation that helps families of War veterans) to weird building statues and a grungy bar. I have no idea what the statue below is suppose to represent or why it is there…some research for another time…

Building Art, Drewery Lane,  – I have no idea about this sculpture but I quite like it.

Down one of the side lanes called Sniders Lane is a small bar called Sister Bella, a grungy student bar with a lot of character.

Hosier Lane Street Art

I walked down Hosier Lane a few weeks ago to check for new art and found a few nice pieces that were fairly new and mostly untouched. The black and white Pirate scene was particularly good, very large and impressive (language warning – sorry Mum). Also in the new collection was a memorial piece.

Protest and Statement Street Art

At various street art sites you can always find good examples of protest and statement art. They are usually much smaller and one needs to look in the out of the way places along the laneway walls. The pictures below were taken in the last week.

Shooting off the hip

I have read about a style of Street Photography where you take shots from the hip as you walk around. I gave this a go and took a series of shots with some interesting results. I generally looked the other way when I shot so I was not really aiming at anything in particular but just wanted to see what would accidentally turn up. On reviewing and processing the images from a walk down a cafe laneway, I noticed the man in the shop window. I still can’t figure how he appears in both shots looking at me or through me – maybe all mirrors…
