The selection below was some of the best street art I found in April 2017 . A mixture of spray painting, pasteups and stencils. Most were gone (over-sprayed) in the following days. The photos were mostly taken in Hosier & Rutledge Lanes and a few other laneways around Melbourne CBD – all images taken with an iPhone 6S.

Malt I have to say that Melbourne street art is some of the best I have seen in capital cities in Australia. I often bring my wife to the attention of the quality of the art work seen on the sides of buildings etc as we tour the city by train or by car.

There is a pretty vibrant scene in Melbourne and it is slowly moving into the inner suburbs . The CBD laneways are not a good as they used to be as they are absorbed into private ones of new apartment developments. I few key lanes are still going strong and I check these out most days.

I like the last one, the old woman. Why were they sprayed over so quickly?

Unless the mural is placed somewhere high or inaccessible any other spray artist or tagger can come along and use the same spot. Sometimes the subject matter will be respected for a few more days/weeks than usual.
