New Banksias and Old….

While camping at Balnarring Beach Foreshore, a friend (Antoniette) and I photographed the local Banksia flowers stems and seed pods. When left undisturbed the Banksias can grow to large tree-size specimens and attract many birds, mammals and insects.

  1. I love banksias, they are my absolute favourite of all Australian plants. Nothing not to like about them, and the pods are fantastic things. Honeyeaters love them. I planted a narrowleaved ericifolia here (Riverina) but it died over the summer. I might try again later, but they do seem to prefer plenty of water. My old place in Canberra had some that took off after every thunderstorm and downpour.

    • Thanks for the comments Sue, I like Banksias too, very photogenic and a great representative of the complex Australian flora…many banksias won’t seed unless a fire passes by…when flowering they attract many honeyeaters to your garden so definitely persevere with establishing them in your garden…
