Little Wattlebird of Wilson Botanic Park

Today, with a few of the Port Phillip Birders, I visited the Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick. We were searching for the reported Channel-billed Cuckoo but while we were unsuccessful we did find a number of other beautiful birds. Much of the bottlebrush was in full bloom and attracted many birds feeding on the nectar.

    • Hi Dianne, thanks for the comments and I am glad to get the feedback that you like the posts. I use a Canon EOS 7D Mk2 and a Canon 100-400 Zoom lens. I sometimes use a 1.4 extender but only on good sunny days with plenty of light. I also carry my older 7D mk1 and a few other lens for macro, wide angle and standard shots which I use for context.

Now I am looking at the Spotted Pardalote. Beautiful photos. I am enjoying following your work very much. Those photos are inspiring to me. I am actually learning all the good places around Melbourne to photograph birds.
    Cheers. Dianne

    • Thanks Dianne, there are some great places around Melbourne, I started photographing birds with my Canon 40D and a canon 75-300mm and then a sigma 150-500mm lens. I walked around Braeside Park most Saturdays and also Jawbone Coastal Reserve in Williamstown – at Jawbone you can get quite close to the birds. Also start exploring your own suburb and get know the local birds. Even everyday birds can be a challenge to get a nice portrait – I still don’t have a good Magpie shot.

    • Another good Camera option is the Canon Powershot SX60HS – I cary it as a backup and for video. It has a great zoom and fairly simple features. My friend Gio only uses this camera for his photography and gets very good shots and video with it. I would start off with something like that and then see how you go from there…
